North Shore
Nature of the work:
Sewer rehabilitation work is planned for the day of August 28 on Bord-de-l’Eau Road near the REM viaduct, resulting in a complete closure of traffic from 09:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., followed by an alternating traffic barrier for the rest of the day.
Drivers are encouraged to use the detour road below during the day of August 28. A possible slowdown in circulation is expected in the afternoon when circulating alternately.
At all times, pedestrian and cyclist traffic will continue to be possible with flagmen.
Work might be postponed until August 29 in case of rain.
Impacts and mitigation measures:
The objective of the REM office project office and the NouvLR consortium is to mitigate the impacts on residents and to ensure the safety of all by implementing appropriate measures.
The work could cause noise, vibration and dust. To ensure compliance with the noise, vibration and air quality criteria to which the project is subject, environmental experts follow up.
The map below illustrates the recommended detour during the complete closure:
This section in 2M used to be an access ramp for construction vehicles to reach the track. It is now totally disappeared, sound barriers are in place, and the ditch has been very successfully planted with herbs and tall grasses, it does not look like it’s the first year of vegetation growth.
I sometimes don’t understand the point of having such long bridges thrice as large as the already overweight road, specially if it’s just to fence in the underpass area.
But if the REM and the city council are cooperative, I think it’d be possible to turn it into something useful, I think a small playground or a skate park would be great there, or maybe a coffe shop with terrasse if that’s legal under a bridge. Definitely good uses to make out of this rain and sun proof area.
Looking at the state of the Roxboro station I’m guessing the REM won’t open before August next year. Honestly I wouldn’t even be surprised if they opened it later even
Don’t be fooled by how quickly landscaping can be completed. The Nuns island station literally got the entire bus terminal built 2-3 weeks before the station opened
The tunnel is the bottleneck and on the critical path of the project but looking at the work and testing progress elsewhere happening now, I think that even if rhe tunnel was completed, the REM A3 and 4 lines could never have opened before the end of this year as previously announced.
I know, but literally nothing is done. I could see how it could all be done quickly (like by april) but visibly they’re not worried about finishing things quickly. The tunnel is the bottleneck and as long as this isn’t finished they’re not worried about finishing the station here. And at the pace they’re going I’m guessing late Q3 2025 or anywhere in Q4 (wouldn’t even be surprised if they can’t make it for the start of the autumn semester they push back the opening to the end of Q4)
I mean they said they would start high speed testing towards the end of September, but we saw the train once here mid September and nothing since and we’re almost at the end of October
AFAIK there have been only a scant few low-speed tests on the AA branch, and no “service speed” tests yet – which, again, were supposed to commence in late September.
The retention bassins at Pierrefonds-Roxboro are supposed to be installed before the end of November, so maybe this’ll be part of the start of landscaping? They worked relatively quickly at Sunnybrooke, so 1 month and a half could be doable… But it sucks that they seem to not have any active teams there right now
I’ll still try to be optimistic and wish for a Q3 opening at the latest, but this really depends on the tunnel (take a shot )
Pierrefonds was the last station to begin construction, it’ll be the last station to get completed and landscaping only takes a few weeks. The teams are moving around right now, currently focused on Bois-Franc (and looks like prep work at Deux-Montagnes). No need to worry
I tried to take a picture but failed (the time to stop the car and get my camera out the rem was gone)
But I can confirm that they’re doing high speed testing on the DM line
As for the noise, it’s super silent. Like much more then I was expecting. It’s about equivalent to a car on the 9th avenue (parallel to the train tracks). A truck on Gouin is louder then it
