One is an integration with Transit app, vs the document wants integration directly with Apple. Agencies can always integrate with Transit (look at the 747 STM Bus), but that’s separate from Apple/Google Wallet, hopefully ARTM would want both long term.
Calgary never had Opus or Presto in the first place. They went straight from paper tickets and magnetic cards to their own payment app. Montreal would keep OPUS ?

Ensuite, en 2021-2022, l’accès a été étendu à tous les cellulaires Android à l’aide de l’approche HCE. Finalement, la solution a été déployée sur les appareils Apple (iPhone, Apple Watch) en 2024 juste avant les Jeux Olympiques.

Donc le bas-peuple (/s) trouve plus facile de chercher sa zone et combien de billets sur 2-3 cartes au lieu de simplement mettre de l’argent sur une carte? Tout ça pour ne pas taper-out?
Je pense toujours qu’il est inévitable que l’on doive se rendre à une tarification selon la distance, surtout avec le REM qui lui, facture l’ARTM selon la distance. Le plus tôt le mieux.
Comme la carte OPUS est basée sur des billets et pas un portefeuille électronique, ça va ressembler plus à ça

J’aurais préféré jeter Calypso par-dessus bord et avoir une app juste pour l’ARTM avec la carte bancaire directe permise dans les bus et le métro.
You can only have a specific transit card on one device at a time, but you can easily move it across devices. Via Apple.
So same as android thanks.
I have to wonder if the artm will have the same restriction where you need to choose what device you want your card knowing that dead bats are a thing
One thing i don’t understand with opus is the lack of any online purchases and delivery of a standard/dedicated opus card for tourists…
Metrolinx understood this simple concept and allow free of delivery fees country wide and small fees internationally
Sharing the same card on two devices is impossible on a technical level, at least for the most common implementations for NFC card emulation. The card isn’t somewhere in the cloud, it’s literally on your phone. However, on iPhone, an express transit card can still be used even when your phone dies.

In addition, like you say how it’s stored directly in the device, in NYC where they have fare capping, it only works when you use the same device. Even if you have the same card on your watch as your phone, it’ll count as two different riders
Thing is what is more important, your bus card or your credit card when your phone is dead?
On apple & Google wallet you got 1 option
Cus the credit card on mobile is a different number all together that the bank generated for your device you can tell cus your recipe will have a diff number than your actual card

I still don’t know how they would take into account the paratransit cards & employee cards where permissions are printed into the physical card
I know that they plan to have registered accounts where you need an employee to link the account to you
But a virtual card won’t do nothing to permissions given to some users who need to display the permission in person
The ARTM also has a posting on SEAO for a unified public transit identity verification service that would let those eligible for reduced fares through work or accompanying others to verify their identity with their organization and access these fares virtually
