Air Canada shares plans for fully restoring its international network.

“Getting the network restarted is a function of the virus and how it evolves,” he added. “There are signals that the transatlantic recovery will be pretty robust … We’re hopeful that sometime in 2022 or 2023 we’ll see a meaningful recovery in Asia and Australia.”

Areas of the world with low COVID-19 vaccination rates make restarting services to these destinations problematic in the near term, Galardo acknowledged.

Federal government to require vaccinations for all federal public servants, air and train passengers

‘We need to reach as many Canadians as we possibly can’ — Transport Minister Omar Alghabra

John Paul Tasker · CBC News · Posted: Aug 13, 2021 12:28 PM ET | Last Updated: 3 hours ago

Transport Minister Omar Alghabra announced today that the federal government will soon require that all public servants be vaccinated — a mandate that he said will also be implemented by Crown corporations and other federally regulated businesses in the coming weeks.

While Canada’s vaccination rate is among the highest in the world — 81 per cent of all eligible Canadians have had at least one dose — Alghabra said the country “must do better.”

“We need to reach as many Canadians as we possibly can,” he said.

After a blitz in April and May, the number of new first doses being administered daily has been stuck at well under 100,000 since mid-June.

There are still more than 5.7 million people over the age of 12 who have chosen to forgo a shot altogether, or to wait for a later date. The number of unvaccinated Canadians is roughly equivalent to everyone living in the Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton metropolitan areas combined.

Starting as soon as next month, the vaccine will be made mandatory for federal employees and those working in some federally regulated industries (airlines and railways, among others) in an effort to boost stalled vaccination rates.

The government says it also “expects” that other employers in federally regulated sectors— like banking, broadcasting and telecommunication — will require vaccination for their employees. “The government will work with these employers to ensure this result,” the government said in a statementannouncing the new mandate.

KLM flies to Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto and Montreal several times a week. KLM also operates an even larger network in Canada in collaboration with its partner Westjet. Vaccinated travellers who have a negative PCR test result will be able to make use of this service again starting Tuesday 7 September, when they can once again fly to Canada.

As well as Air Canada’s intention to re-launch YUL-TLS, which of course was delayed, then cancelled all together due to Covid.

Ethiopian Lines Up New North American Routes

A second route to Washington Dulles and the launch of flights to Montreal are on the agenda.

GebreMariam also revealed that there are talks ongoing with relevant bodies in Canada to start Montreal (YUL) flights via Dublin (DUB).

They were eying YUL pre pandemic, so this would be so cool :+1: I wonder why via DUb?

For the reasons mentioned by @OusmaneB, ETH’s flights to Pearson also fly over DUB, and they don’t take on any passengers on that leg.

:thinking::thinking: Hot & high envelope, but it still seems odd.

ADD is just over 2300 m AMSL (and 6839 miles from YUL), while JNB is at 1750 m AMSL with similar 40° heat from September through May, but Delta had no issues loading up their 772s to fly direct to Atlanta — about 1600 miles and three hours longer. Now with the A350 they’ll have to “payload optimize” (weight restrict) for the return leg as they were hoping to return via Capetown — 300 miles closer but also just 50 m AMSL.

Pré-pandémie il y avait cette idée d’avoir les partenaires Star Alliance qui desservent YUL alors qu’Air Canada commençait les liaisons au départ de YYZ. Je me demande si ça a un lien

Nice to see a lineup of AC widebodies at the South Pad. Bonus points for all three still in the old livery! I’m guessing they’re coming off transpacific/transatlantic cargo service.

MONTREAL, Oct. 13, 2021 /CNW Telbec/ - Air Canada announced today a strategic expansion of its India services, with additional flights from Toronto, and a new year-round, non-stop route between Montreal and Delhi. Starting October 31, just in time for Diwali celebrations, Air Canada will offer three flights per week to the growing Indian community in Montreal. Additionally, the airline is increasing frequency to Delhi from Toronto to ten flights per week beginning Oct. 15. All flights will be operated with Air Canada’s most modern aircraft, the 298-seat Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner featuring a choice of three cabins of service: Air Canada Signature Class, Premium Economy and Economy class.

“The Canada-India market is an important and strategic one for Air Canada. These additional flights and new route demonstrate Air Canada’s anticipation about the promise and growth of the Indian subcontinent– and we also look forward to further strengthening the cultural and business ties between our two countries,” said Mark Galardo, Senior Vice President, Network Planning and Revenue Management at Air Canada. “Today’s announcement also confirms Air Canada’s commitment to growing its main hubs of Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal, with convenient non-stop service to India from each hub. Air Canada is the only carrier offering a direct service to Delhi out of Montreal, allowing for easy connections through our extensive network. We continue to focus on the growing visiting friends and relatives market and this capacity expansion is a response to increasing demand.”

As the leading carrier between the two countries, Air Canada offers daily flights from Vancouver, up to ten flights a week from Toronto and three flights a week from Montreal. The airline’s service to Mumbai will resume when conditions permit.

These fins don’t operated cargo flights, they still have all their seats on-board. If you took the photos today these planes are or were doing.
