Very excited about this! I hope we ge more direct flights to Asia (HKG, SIN, TPE, BKK)

YUL → ICN

I see this flight is popular… looking good in load

It’s a HiFly, but still sporting the CAA Congo livery from a previous ACMI lease.

TPE and Hong Kong would normally be doable on 77W or 789, but alas are impossible with the current overflight restrictions. Singapore is unreachable from here with anything but the A359 ULR, but even that could only happen if restrictions were abated.

lol savez-vous combien de fois j’ai fait type YUL-JFK-LAX-SYD-BNE pour une escale là bas de moins de 24 heures?:smile::smile: [ou Tokyo, ou Séoul, ou Hong Kong, ou Singapour, ou…]

Given Air Canada’s limited aircraft availability, I wouldn’t bet much on more Asian destinations out of YUL, unless another Star Alliance carrier operates it, like Air China to PEK or EVA Air to TPE. Those two also still fly over Russia.

The only other Asian destinations I see happening are the return of PVG (Shanghai) with Air Canada and PEK (Beijing) with Air China.

When? That is to be determined, PVG is not possible until Russian airspace reopens.
Air China however doesn’t have this problem.

Other then that I maybe could see KIK (Osaka), ANA does have flights to PVG & PEK that could be used as onwards connections.

Fully agreed with you. If I can add, Air Canada has not even restarted Toronto-Shanghai yet, so I don’t think we’ll see that one in a while.

If I had to bet, I would say the most likely next Asian route is Montréal-Beijing with Air China.

Air Canada is also only 4 weekly on Vancouver-Shanghai, and Vancouver-Beijing is 1 weekly with Air China.

Me too! I bet next one will be the return of the flights to PEK or PVG!

More strong growth for YUL in May, up +8%
Nearly 800k more than 2023 after only 5 months… at this rate, 22.5 million or more is definitely in play.

interesting domestic travel down

Les voyages d’affaire ont vraiment diminué. Je serais curieux de voir les chiffres spécifiques pour Montréal <> Toronto, ça a du beaucoup baisser

I assume it’s because of more international flights out of Montreal. People don’t need to connect via Toronto anymore because of major expansion of international flights. Transborder is also up (more connecting passengers from US to other international destinations, and more people flying direct from Montreal to US instead of via TO)

Porter is adding 2 new routes starting this winter.

Fort Lauderdale is a huge market from YUL. This is not surprising, but it should help a bit with prices!

On a separate note Air Canada Vacations has released its winter program.

New route YUL-SXM (Saint Maarten) 1 weekly flight
Also…
Montreal (YUL) – Miami (MIA) Increases to 3 daily flights from 2
Montreal (YUL) – Phoenix (PHX) Increases to 4 weekly flights from 2
Montreal (YUL) – San José (SJO) Increases to 1 daily flight from 3 weekly
Montreal (YUL) – Providenciales (PLS) Increases to 3 weekly flights from 2
Montreal (YUL) – Fort-de-France (FDF) Increases to 6 weekly flights from 5
Montreal (YUL) – Tulum (TQO) New winter route, 5 weekly flights

We’ll probably see AC try and defend FLL from Porter by adding more flights or just more 297 seater A330s, time will tell.

Nice to see all these upgrades and Porter addition. I remember when 1 or 2 weekly flights was the norm for most routes. Look at FDF, 6 weekly. That’s awesome.
