Transport en commun - Signalétique métropolitaine

Je suis surpris que sur ces plans à jour, on n’indique pas la présence d’ascenseur, spécialement à McGill pour indiquer, qu’elle entrée est celle avec des ascenseurs.

Autre point, étrange qu’on aie pas indiquer les endroits pour les navettes en cas d’interruption de service, si elles vont desservir ces 2 stations ?

I forgot to share, I also really like how transfers are now shown in bold. It makes it very clear there is connections at the station. Before, bold and capitals were used on the terminus:

The green line on the eastern end has been adjusted, to have the dot at the end of the line, instead of the side. We also see the terminus of the SRB being Pie-IX, because it’s all capitals:

The “Réseaux” (now referred to Réseau Metropolitain) has also changed, to now have the line number instead of just the name. I’m assuming gradually in the future we will no longer have named lines, and it will just be referred to by the number:

Question :thinking: they put Montréal-Ouest has correspondence station, even if I’m very doubtful that people go off one train and take another one there. Why is that ?

I get that technically you can do it, but in really that’s not a transfer station at all. Yes it’s a station that multiple lines goes thru, but there is not intermodal changes there

I believe because it is the final connection to many lines. I think Bois-Franc will also appear this way as it’s the connection before the branching of lines

Bois-Frac I get it because you change lines instead of transportation mode, but for Montréal-Ouest ? I doubt that someone take the EXO 11 and get down there to take EXO 14

I don’t think it’s so much a matter of probability than it is one of possibility. Much like a user could go from REM A3 to REM A2 by switching at Bois-Franc, a user could go from St-Jérôme to Candiac by switching at Montréal-Ouest. Service level notwithstanding, it’s the same concept in the end.

Yeah but in practice nobody will ever do it, so why advertising it at a transfert station ? No transfer will ever be done there. The train schedule would probably never align so anybody can do that kind of transferts

It does technically align for a few transfers between lines during morning and evening rush hours

It’s funny you say that because earlier this week I took the train from de la Concorde to get downtown and overheard two guys from Saint-Jérôme asking an EXO employee if they can get off at Montreal-Ouest to switch to the line VH line to get to Dorval.

It might be a rare occasion but still counts!

Oui ce mouvement se fait, mais clairement pas partie de St-Jérome, transférer à Montréal-Ouest et repartir à Candiac, dans un ‘‘déplacement’’

Well what you are getting to, I believe, is the whole question that should the commuter rail trains should be on this type of map ?

This has already been discussed quite a bit here.

They all don’t run frequently and you have to plan your trip because of that. Any transfer between commuter rail lines itself, would probably only happen once or twice a day. Many bus lines are more frequent (and have more ridership) than these lines. Therefore you could argue that frequent bus lines should be on the map instead of the commuter rail lines.

However, commuter rail has faster travel times than car, especially during rush hour, and despite running not that often, they still have pretty good ridership (standing only space during rush hour). Also, they are under utilized (for some lines/departures), and in some cases, millions have already been poured in to make the service possible. Therefore, there is equally a rationale to valorize them, which is what is being done right now. They are on the map, and they have TOD zones around them, which is not the case for frequent bus lines.

I was just very surprise, that this station would ever been consider a transfer, but it is. My only point was hopefully you can do this for all lines there and more then 1x time a day.

I thank you for proving me that I was wrong with this example, I am just wondering if this also applied to all lines and it’s not an exception. I get those kind of movements are less commun, but if more can be done at Mtl-Ouest to become a nod for interchange movement of commuter rail user, that would be great.

Bruh, while installing new signage at stations they accidentally doubled all the network rules and forgot to install network maps…

I once had to go to Chabanel in the evening. Took the 5:20pm Vaudreuil train from Pointe-Claire to Montreal-Ouest and the switched to the 5:55pm train St-Jérome train to Chabanel

What we really want to know is how you got home!

I went to help my boss with a task so I got a lift home

This harmonises it with the vocal announcements in the métro, where they say “sur la Ligne 2 - Orange”, for instance. The first annoucement recording i have where they say “Ligne n - couleur” is in decembre 2024. In novembre, they were still saying “ligne couleur”.

On the other hand, the plan réseau/métropolitain started using numbers, in addition to colours, starting from may 2023 (or a bit earlier this year).
