Station YUL-Aéroport-Montréal-Trudeau

For perhaps 50% (or more) of this forum, sure, public transit might be viable and the desirable way to get to or from YUL, but it’s impossible to deny that for the vast majority of people in the CMM, it simply doesn’t work. If they hit a 20% target with REM, I’d consider that a success. And that’s 5 million riders a year! The entire REM is only hoping to handle some 45 million riders a year.

This is why a east-west metro line in the north of Montreal and the connection with Dorval (exo and VIA/ALTO) is absolutely essential, this would allow people for the north shore, east shore, Montréal east and all South shore accessing the airport with one transfer. How you do that? Basically using ALTO to increase service on the Vaudreuil and Saint-Jérôme line and connect this new east-west metro line at Chabanel.

Not saying you’re against it by the way or wathever, not an attack here, just to bounce on your comment.

No no, I got it the way you meant it. I was just pointing out that the REM is not a panacea that will suddenly cause car-dependent suburbanites in Montreal to leave their cars at home and lug their suitcases to the nearest bus stop in the snow.

Not only suburbanites. Imagine a couple of immigrants from CDN picking up their parents from aéroport. It is ~50$ taxi door to door with all the suitecases vs 45$ REM to EM then then need a way to get home after.

$$ is also important if it more than 2 peoples.

UP Express has various fees for those situations and REM should follow suit. CDG Express also announced they will be cheaper than taxi no matter what.

As long as all normal fares for Zone A are also accepted, I think it’s a great idea to be as competitive for pricing as possible!

We’re all assuming that the current 747 fare structure will remain, which means no single zone A fares and only unlimited + monthly fares being accepted which isn’t bad at all imo

There’s no official agreement yet with ARTM on the YUL fees but the REM law allows for different prices. Since the REM won’t create a payment infrastructure only for YUL (not that I know of) they must use ARTM’s payment systems.

Right now ARTM keeps all the money from 747 and gives back the operational cost to STM. I don’t know if they pay fees to ADM as well (??). Before the 2027 opening REM and ARTM will have to agree not only on using the payment system but on revenue sharing. ARTM will collect payments no matter what, but I have yet to see a formal sharing agreement (please correct if you saw one). ADM and REM also need to make clear who does what for security and maintenance.

Source?

There’s no mention of the airport in the current agreement. They’ll have to clarify between themselves before 2027.

And how do West Island commuters take the REM to Dorval and then their bus to the suburbs? Or are we building the airport line strictly for the airport clientele and those willing to pay the extortion fee?
I don’t live in the West Island, but the current extortion fee is not compatible with the model in which the buses link to the REM.

As long as ARTM and REM don’t clearly come up with a joint approach for fees at YUL we’ll have more questions than answers.
