They couldn’t go with it because like other’s said, they built this when the DM line was in service and was planned to be in service for later (but then with COVID they decided removing it earlier).
If they were planning on opening it originally in 2022 without COVID happening, and it got a central island platform, the DM line would’ve had to stop running in 2019 as it would be directly in the middle of the track (unless they rerouted the track around).
A lot of the exterior of the station was finished in fall of 2020, if they knew service wouldn’t open till 2025 they could’ve built the station later but planned on it being in phase 2 originally in 2022:
