Ouvrages d'art Tronçon Central - Discussion

Je me demande pourquoi ne pas avoir assuré une continuité de service en construisant à côté. Ça aurait évité 5 mois de longs détours pour les usagers de ces ponts.

What is 5 months when you consider that those bridges are going to be there for a few decades? As far as I’m aware, we haven’t seen the plans, but it could very well be that they are choosing to rebuild in the same location because they beleive that’s the better location for those bridges. If its a trade-off between not having access to them for a few months and having them in a more suitable location for the next few decades, I beleive that’s a worthwhile trade-off.

I emailed the REM to ask but I hope the new bridges will be wider and accessible, as the old bridges could barely fit two people, and had steps on each end

5 months is an eternity for kids who take the bridge daily to go to school

I am very doubtful about the accessibility due to how narrow the ROW and road access is around TMR

I sometimes listen in on the town council meetings, and I am pretty sure it was mentioned multiple times, through different iterations of these initally separate projects, that both bridges are to become universally accessible.

Awesome to hear, I’m curious to see how they’re gonna work around the slope limitations

For the Russell bridge, the town was previously planning to build long ramps parallel and in-between the street and the rail right of way. They shared that info at a time when the bridge itself was not to be rebuilt, only renovated by the REM. No designs were ever shown. With the most recent announcement, it seems the bridge maintenance is no longer a town project but a REM project to rebuild the entire thing and, I assume, still make it accessible.
Nothing was ever mentioned about the constraints at Montgomery, but the plan has always been to have it rebuilt and made accessible by the REM, before putting the segment in service.

Also, the road closure areas shown in red on the maps within the announcement, seem to give an indication of where the ramps will be located.

Bizarre qu’il n’y ait pas eu de communication publique après cette fin de semaine. Quelqu’un sait si ça s’est bien passé ?

Between Gare Centrale and McGill, the heavy duty buffer stop at the end was removed and replaced with a more temporary one that can easily be removed, closer to Gare Centrale’s platform:

Lots of work ongoing on the main segment.

They’re installing some sort of retention device on the highway 40 overpass

I don’t know how permanent this is meant to be considering the highway 40 elevated sections are all going to be rebuilt in the coming years

Old pedestrian bridge being demolished

Lastly, I couldn’t get a photo but there’s a train storage area being built behind the CDL exo tracks. It’s made of concrete.

Based on how they’re using simple chain link fences instead of anti-climb mesh fencing, it’s temporary, especially when you compare the fencing added on the bridges in Brossard:

The thing is that that’s a vehicle only overpass that’s already grade separated. There’s no pedestrian traffic

True, the ones on the A30 seem similar to the ones you shared, very temporary looking:
