FWIW, I haven’t seen a train on the West Island branch in at least two months. My sister sits at a desk all day in the Broccolini building on the A40 in Kirkland, facing a large picture window directly across from the REM, and she says she hasn’t seen one in probably that long as well. Any notion that they are in the midst of full-scale tests, let alone “simulated service” – aka marche-à-blanc – is imaginary.

I’m not a gambler, but if I were, I wouldn’t put good money on the REM opening anytime in 2025, especially without full-scale testing under winter conditions.

Everything I’ve heard internally is this year early October, how much would you be willing to bet it won’t happen this year?

Keep in mind that it’s absolutely normal to not have tests go on for a long period of time before launch. Before the first branch opened, I worked in front of the IDS station and would note their testing patterns and whenever they’d discover switch issues or catenary issues, they’d periodically stop work for 1-2 months to correct and then retest. Especially now, with them finalizing the Mount Royal tunnel section after their initial tests, it’s very much possible they’ve discovered some construction defects which are fully normal and might not impact launch.

Kirkland isn’t the main branch, Deux-Montagnes is.

While I wouldn’t be surprised that they delay it further, I have trouble seeing it happen without serious ongoing issues justifying it.

A public project could go Aw Shucks, next year then. A private project, not so much.

Someone is losing money over the delays, and I bet that they want to minimize that. Imo if there’s a delay, it’s because of the tunnel.

Aren’t they moving their centre of operations to Brossard right around now? The lack of tests would make sense

Is this for confirmed for both DM and SADB? They might just delay SADB…

Yes it’s confirmed for everything except the airport

:frowning:

I’m very disappointed. I was really excited to take it in October, and use it to commute downtown, and also meet up with friends in Kirkland and Pierrefonds.

Is it gonna be a minor delay of several weeks or a major one needing another year? Will a second network shutdown be necessary?

Given that everything already looks done, I feel like people won’t understand why there are additional delays

Nothing is officially confirmed yet, but if we believe the rumors, only the Deux-Montagnes branch would open this October. It would still be a game-changer for commutes to downtown.

The Anse-à-l’Ormes branch would be later, maybe next spring

I’m curious about what kind of deficiencies have to be corrected there. They, in theory, had 6 extra months to iron out any issues on that branch

Edmonton had a major signaling issue, even had to replace cables

They are still rumors, although up to now REM opening delay rumors turned out to be true up to now.

At this stage, the absolute priority is to restore tunnel service to downtown which has been cutoff 5 years ago, and the second one is to restore service to DM as it was an existing connection.

Although not as deep in the WI than the Anse branch, opening the DM branch will still bring some service to the eastern end of Pierrefonds/DDO which is better than the actual situation requiring everyone to go through Côte Vertu and the orange line.

If rumors are true, i’d also expect the Anse branch to open in Spring or early summer 2026, specifically if there are issues to resolve and test, a winter opening is quite unlikely.
