Today is not a day to take the metro

Despite there being at least 1 service interruption per day, the last time I was delayed by the metro was probably more than a month ago, despite taking it 6 days a week twice a day (minimum). Their alerts make it seem way more extreme than it is, really you need to be there at the wrong segment, at the wrong time to be affected. Same with the rem, the ratio of down to up time is still like 1/99

My last job had me talking the Métro every day. After not getting stuck since I graduated university (~4 years) I got stuck for 30 mins 3 times in like 2 weeks. It really got to me and I’ll be honest it soured me to transit a little bit at the time.

That being said, my new job requires me to drive a company car every day and I experience gridlock 5-6x by the time I get home

All this to say service interruptions seem awfully quaint to me now. I’ll take the 1-2% chance I’ll miss a meeting and need to stay late (which I can usually make by teams anyway, especially when on transit) vs. Rolling the dice to know if my commute will be delayed by 20 mins or 1.5 hours.

It’s the feeling of helplessness that gets to you. I’ll go a month without a single delay, but then the day I REALLY REALLY rushed out of the house and was about to make it on time, a 10 min delay will ruin everything. And there’s nothing you can do because you’re not the one driving. And that will stick with you

But driving is a false sense of control. No matter what route I try, if I use gmaps or not, the drive to the metro station is an absolute nightmare, and a different amount of time every day. In comparison the metro ride is so reliable

Quelques statistiques…

L’ACTU cite le métro de Montréal comme exemple frappant. Construit dans les années 1960, le système fait face à un déficit de réparation de plus de 6 milliards de dollars et nécessite un investissement de 560 millions de dollars par an pour éviter une détérioration supplémentaire. Les fermetures d’urgence récentes sur la ligne bleue soulignent l’urgence d’investir. En seulement dix ans, les interruptions de service causées par des défaillances d’infrastructure ont augmenté de 133 %, tandis que le nombre d’équipements considérés en état critique a augmenté de 300 % au cours des cinq dernières années.

Ça a l’air d’être fini à De la Concorde et Cartier.

Je viens de la voir aujourd’hui c’est vraiment beau (photo STM). c’est triste d’avoir perdu le jardin Domtar mais le métro gagne avec cet édicule.

Ça fait des mois que je n’y ai pas vu de vélos. Je ne sais pas si cest toujours en service ou si c’est simplement un échec auprès des usagers.
