Well, there certainly was before, and there still kind of is – we just have to get over this mentality of believing we need thousand-foot-long trains to only carry a few hundred passengers at most. More-frequent exo services on an improved suburban network wouldn’t need eight or 10 (or more) cars, and a future HSR line would be adequately served with four or five bi-level MU trains.
