I’m riding a Volgren Optimus e-Bus right now in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. Of course the drivetrain is quiet, but so is the rest of the bus, from the road noise to the structure – very little creaking and rattling – to the powerful air conditioning – it’s 29°C and sunny right now. It’s a clean, comfortable, modern urban bus. Volgren is owned by Brazilian coachbuilder Marcopolo, and builds buses on a variety of chassis from multiple global manufacturers. If I’m not mistaken, the Optimus is based on a Volvo 12 metre chassis. What is holding NovaBus back from building something as modern and capable as this?
