Good at least they did not ruin that

That’s high praise coming from you.

Regarding the whole question of patrimoine, I made a comment on that topic on the Gare centrale thread… all this ARTM/STM wayfinding can trace its origins back to 20th century international style, the same movement that inspired the architecture of Gare centrale. Maybe FF Transit isn’t Helvetica or Univers, but the influence is clear.

I don’t see why we can’t evolve - respecting its heritage but not shackling ourselves to it.

Unfortunately, in North America, it very much does feel like we have the worse of both worlds. We preserve very little, allowing numerous historical buildings to become dilapidated and fall to ruin. The few buildings that we do preserve are preserved to such an extreme extent that it is nearly impossible to update them to fit the needs of our modern life. I would really like to see our authorities rationalise those policies and look toward Europe for alternatives to our model.

Place Ville Marie was worried about me I guess and completely replaced their signage to now include the REM (under Gare Centrale correctly and not Bonaventure)

They’ve even prepared for the opening of the next section with the logo added and covered:

Centre Eaton de Montréal? Pas celui de Chibougamau…

C’est son nom officiel, simplement.

Il y a aussi celui de Toronto, qui s’appelle officiellement le “Toronto Eaton Centre”

Gare centrale il y a aussi des feuilles un peu partout sur les murs

Interesting how the parking sign has better info than the bus stop sign

I’m happy to say they FINALLY fixed this 4 year old broken taxibus sign

How it used to look like:

The ARTM knows Cominar accidentally removed their signage at Gare Centrale, and also how they reinstalled it in the wrong location.

Thankfully from what I heard, there was a meeting this past Monday with everyone involved at Gare Centrale. Cominar once again made the excuse “the area will be renovated with the new buildings,” but now it’s being pushed to add temporary ARTM style signage sometime in the near future, replacing the existing signage in Gare Centrale. Eventually, when there will be construction, ARTM signage will stay to guide around it, and then eventually permanent signage that matches Gare Centrale more specifically will be added.

Because everything is Cominar, it’s up to them to have the final say, so if they wanted they could not do any of this, but I’m hoping they’ll recognize how bad it is now and actual do this.

Does the artm not have any powers to force it self on the cmm territory(+Saint Jérôme & Kanawake)

The ARTM has no direct executive power on infrastructure, if only functions through intermediaries such as the STM or other contractors.

Furthermore, the ARTM can only initiate things with CMM approval, and GC is complicated by the federal government having protections for the land in place. Same thing in Kahnawake, where provincial power is much less importsnt

Seriously, this is getting ridiculous. The government needs to cut through this crap and just tell Cominar to either do it themselves, let the ARTM do it, or have the dubious honor of having the government pass the Cominar law.

This one thing might look stupid, but there are hundreds of thousands of these situations in the government. Bureaucracy has pros and cons.
