Found this a Paris/Orly ad. I guess Montreal’s could be similar

Good video.

I’m curious why Corsair left and French Bee came in at the same moment pretty much ensuring a continuous link from YUL to Orly. They are not owned by the same company and have no connection as far as I know. Does anyone have some insight on that? I would have ideally preferred Corsair stayed and just compete against them in the ORY route. After many years if not decades of service it’s strange they bowed out now.

the journalist has no clue that Corsair used to fly here for years

Corsair recently only operated ORY-YUL during season if I recall correctly, always thought it was strange the route wasn’t year round and it always seemed like they didn’t the route seriously personally (sending wet leased planes at that). French Bee operating it year round with their own metal is an upgrade in that sense.

I didn’t know Corsair fully left. Do we know why?

No idea why they left, but I assume it is because they weren’t making enough money? In 2020, they talked about flying to Montreal, Miami and New York; they no longer serve all three. They mention the risk in expanding in a new market and the need to develop brand recognition. Maybe they failed?

What I found - they’re focusing on the Antilles, Africa and Indian Ocean (i’m guessing Mayotte and Reunion)

they also have had financial troubles in recent years, even asking the french government for help. Orly-Montreal being a seasonal route, I assume it was an easy choice for them to shut it down, considering that Air Transat, Air Canada and Air France, their competition on this route, also have flights to Paris.

31 janvier 2025

Go-arounds are pretty common.

But the particuliar situation here don’t seem to be, they say out of 22k incidents reported in the last year only 92 had to do with an aircraft or vehicle on the ground, and the pilot said it had only happened 2 or 3 times since his career which started in the 80s. That being said the timing is obviously what makes this newsworthy i guess.

But I think the article is missing something, it happens every once in a while to do a Go-Around asked by ATC. In this case, they starting their missed approach at 300m (~1000ft). The safety margins were not compromised.

Oh and btw, the day prior Jan 28th, Air France did a Go-Around and didn’t make the news…

again people (the press) that have no clue about the airline world and suddenly become experts when accidents happen.

That happened to me once ages ago on a JetsGo flight from Toronto. There was a blinding blizzard and I couldn’t see the ground until a few meters over the runway and then suddenly pilot shot the MD-80 up forcefully later saying there was a vehicle on the runway. I was happy to finally land safely. The angle at which we climbed was like nothing I had ever experienced before.

It’s happened to me a few times, and when I was cabin crew it was also part of the familiarization flights we had to go through.

I experienced one last November in Calgary, because the plane before us had not cleared the runway fast enough. It happens all the time…

This is just the media being paranoid now that there’s been a crash (that is not even related to this…)
