I think French Bee already announced a route from ORY.
I know Iberia at some point wanted to use their A321XLR from Madrid. Also, I will be really happy to see LOT launching a route from Warsaw. Oh and apparently Air Senegal wanted to open a flight from Dakar although they have financial problems as they just pulled back from JFK…
They’ve mentioned countless times their desire to serve YUL, but until Canadian bilaterals are changed to allow more flights to Canada they are unable to serve YUL. They are allowed to fly 7 weekly to Canada, which they rightfully chose to serve Toronto daily.
I’m hoping for some of these at some point in the next 5 years or more…
Alaska
Viva Aerobus or Volaris
JetBlue (one can hope)
Air India or Indigo (eventually)
Icelandair (an eventual return)
Bermudair
ITA (eventually)
Norse Atlantic or Play
French Bee
Another east Asian carrier (one more of the Chinese big 3 or Thai or Singapore)
Also those that have been talked about for years now
Iberia
Aer Lingus
Ethiopian
Brussels Airlines
LOT
I read somewhere there’s high demand from Montreal to Bangkok and Yaoundé of all places… I’d bet Air Canada will explore this more than their own local carriers once Air Canada starts flights to West Africa (Dakar & Abidjan)… it’ll take time though.
JetBlue is reorganizing, but I’d bet they’ll come to eastern Canada before Alaska does. For TransAtl SAS and ITA are possible – if a bit unlikely since WestJet basically bailed on YUL and YYZ.
Not YYZ, but catching up to YVR is not impossible. At current pace, it would only take a few years. This said, unless the expansion project is kicked into high gear, we may face a capacity threshold (moreso…)
If AC couldn’t make it work until the A321XLR arrives, that must mean it did pretty poorly this summer.
It also doesn’t help that SAS left Star Alliance this year.
YYZ-ARN goes from 2 to 4 weekly, where as this summer service was overall 5 weekly between both YUL and YYZ. The fact that they’re not even going back 5 weekly tells you everything you need to know about the route.
Air Canada in late-August 2024 filed selected changes to its planned US operation for Northern summer 2025 season, effective 01MAY25. Planned frequency changes compared to Northern summer 2024 season, as of 08SEP24, as follows.
Montreal – New York LaGuardia Increase from 48 to 49 weekly Montreal – Raleigh/Durham Increase from 7 to 14 weekly Montreal – San Francisco Increase from 13 to 20 weekly
It’s not loaded in the system at all yet for next year, but usually US flight schedules aren’t final until March anyway.
It’s funny cause United added this flight to actually replace one of AC’s this summer. AC was already 20 weekly this summer (June), but due to the ongoing A220 engine problems I’m guessing they got UA to add this flight for them from July onward.
