Vision - Réseaux urbains ailleurs dans le monde

The main problem with this idea with this proposition is that this corridor is quite crowded and I already reserve the current tracks for shared VIA/ALTO usage untill a bit after Barrhaven. Also, a Bank street tunnel will probably be the single most costly part of my plan so I want it to be used at his maximum and connecting the most dense place of Ottawa to both the airport and the station will for sure bring massive ridership. To end, the speed allowed by metro train and my alignment is so fast that the different is not really major.

(Idk why sometimes when I “reply” it links to the comment, and other times it doesn’t, even though both times I click on the black “reply” button on the comment and not the blue one at the bottom of the thread…)

I was thinking back to your map and was wondering, what do you think about making the “future Carling BRT” into an LRT or full metro line? I think your line 5 is sufficiently south to have healthy ridership for a Carling line.

Last time I was there, there were already a lot of the “Carling Corridor” high rises built, lots under construction, and a lot of potential for further density. On the user-experience side, walking along it is miserable, it’s such a wide road, and in the summer it gets so hot because there are so few trees.

I figure, at least something more substantial than a “BRT” connecting Lincoln Fields to Dow’s Lake, with stops in between for the Carlingwood mall and the Royal and Civic hospitals (especially to relieve the parking nightmare of the Civic). If money really is no problem, then maybe it can tunnel east of Bronson to connect with your Glebe station, have a stop for those new developments in Old Ottawa East, and then connect up with Lees or Hurdman. Everything east of Dow’s Lake is a pipe dream but I think everything west would be relatively low-cost? Even if it’s at-grade, it could be fairly high-speed since there aren’t that many roads that would intersect the path.

I think this project could actually be really fine as a european street running tram to serve more local trips indeed you gave some good ideas.

My line 5 is actually a bit more north it run on Heron/Baseline elevated from Guildwood to Algonquin.

Even more cheaper than a tunnel just turn south on Bronson and go downtown to connect with Lyon, yes for sure you miss the connection with line 4 and 7, but I mean the connection with the TGV will be far more important.

Oh yeah I see your line 5 alignment better now, then in that case a tram for Carling would make better sense and I think it still would be fairly rapid. And the link to Lyon would mean fewer transfers for the majority of users.
Overall, I love the love you give to Ottawa in your map, I think Ottawa does deserve so much better than its current plans.

@vincemtl Ahhh ok that makes a lot of sense, merci d’avoir clarifié
