Vision - Réseau Bixi

Discussion sur les expansions potentielles du réseau Bixi dans le grand Montréal

Bixi explique les critères utilisées pour déterminer les emplacement des stations ici

From SEAO Saint eustache, saint-lambert and Sherbrooke are getting bixi this year

And Dorval is apparently in the process according to what the mayor said during PSSO meeting

My idea for a Pointe-Claire bixi network

Google Maps list

Explanations

Five of the stations are near transit connections. Stations can be placed next to the existing bike parking. The exo stations are also connected to each other via the Donegani bike path.

  • Fairview-Pointe-Claire: REM station, near Fairview mall itself.
  • Des Sources: REM station.
  • Cedar Park: Exo station. Near a lot of denser housing
  • Pointe-Claire: Exo station and Hwy 20 bus stop.
  • Valois: Exo Station and near Valois Village

The other three are near trip generators

  • Lanthier/Cartier: Near Pointe-Claire Village. Station south of the intersection
  • Seigniory Park: Near Lakeshore Hospital, a mall and some apartment blocks
  • Douglas Shand/Civic Centre: Near City Hall, a library, a pool, a skating rink and a high school

Others that might work are Hymus/Delmar and Hymus/St-Jean, which are connected via the Hymus path, and have had a lot of recent development. For the same reason, one on Alston could also work if the cycle path is extended between Alston and Paprican, and especially if the bridge over the 40 gets completed

  • Alston/hymus once we get the overpass.
  • the hospital
  • the veterans cemetery
  • i would have a second station for the pool/ice ring
  • Pointe-Claire plaza (its a destination of its self with the likes of poutine-fest and E-bikes would be used plentiful)
  • Stuart Hall… Its already on the map
  • for the village, move it to Lakeshore and cartier the parc will be redesignated to the late mayor of Pointe-Claire who is single handedly responsible to allow the cities to be demerged and it’s in a greenspace.

I didn’t want to get too overboard, since there is a cost to the stations themselves.

the hospital

I originally had the Seigniory Park station on Stillview/Frobisher, but I couldn’t figure out a good place to physically fit the station there

the veterans cemetery

I don’t imagine the cemetary would be a big trip generator. Although one somewhat close by at the north of Cartier Ave might make some sense.

i would have a second station for the pool/ice ring

Probably a good idea. I had originally envisioned one for the library, one for the rink, but merged them in the name of economy.

Pointe-Claire plaza

Probably too. But the crossing into the parking lot needs to be improved

Stuart Hall

I’d disagree with you on that one, at least for now. There is no comfortable bike connection there, and on most days it’s not even that busy.

for the village, move it to Lakeshore and cartier…

I chose Lanthier/Cartier because that’s where the separated path currently ends. Although now that I think of it, maybe it should take up the parking spot right in front of Wild Willy’s

I have some ideas for other west island cities, that i’ll post here later

You mean the location of the garden place?

For dorval what they told me was 5 station, 50 bikes

So good luck

No, I mean right in front

My guess:

  • Terminus dorval (it’s the terminus)
  • Pine beach (train station)
  • Aquatic center (close enough from the library as well)
  • Town hall (obviously)
  • Millennium park (keeping the distribution between west and est kinda equal PLUS this one would work incredibly well with the lachine bikes nearby)

I am not putting YUL (even if it’s on dorval territory) because of it being federal jurisdiction and it’s a HELLHOLE for cars

FWIW, this was my idea for dorval

Google Maps list

Explanation

  • Pine Beach: Exo Station.
  • Dorval: Exo Station and bus terminus
  • Aquatic Center: Near library and park
  • Old Dorval: Near a bunch of businesses, and City Hall
  • Carson/Dorval: Near les Jardins Dorval, as well as a bunch of new condos
  • Sainte-Anne College: Near apartments, a high school, and some restaurants

Also I put one in the HotelParc of the airport since there is actually a bike path that leads there, and I find the idea of taking a Bixi to go catch your flight amusing.

I actually found this map in an attachment on this consultation page of Dorval

I have no idea why it’s shown on “Réseau cyclable existant” in 2023

So dorval is getting bixi for DES SOURCE REM (even if legally the station belongs to Pointe-Claire)

And apparently we already know now that Marie-Curie will get bixi huh

Last I heard by the way Dorval is awaiting funding to pay for getting bixi and it’s at a standstill or something
