That includes a tunnel to reach the median of highway 40 on the other side of Rivière des Prairie. Even considering that expense, I beleive that’s way too expensive for a tramway. For that kind of money, we are clearly not getting our money’s worth. If we’re going to spend that kind of money, then we really should be building a fully automated system.
Urbanist seem to heavily favor a tramway, but I strongly beleive that would be a mistake. It adds a transfer at both ends. Every transfer adds to the transit time. It objectively makes the transit experience worse. If we can’t get a REM / Metro system in that alignment, then I beleive that the east would likely be better off with an SRB. At the bare minimum, it removes at least 1 transfer. The dedicated right of way would slightly improve transit time which really should be the main objective.
