Yeah, I get you and it’s a similar feeling that people have in Pierrefonds-Roxboro (not even to talk about how Roxboro feels about Pierrefonds )
But I think we also under estimate as citizen the cost of single family housing compared to simply town houses and multiplexes like there is in Montreal.
And it also probably comes from the media just under reporting about West Island stuff.
Like who heard about Pierrefonds finally receiving the funding to create a municipal indoor pool so that people here won’t have to go to Pointe-Claire if they want to swim during the winter. Nobody, not even people here in Pierrefonds.
But we sure did hear all about that rebuilt library in Hochelaga (or around that)
But that’s not really something Montreal controls and is just the result of the local news industry dying. The industry is now concentrated in downtown Montreal so you hear story mostly about that and where the journalist lives.
That’s all that makes the news, yet when we build (or plan to build) high density housing on top of an old mall like they want to do at Honoré-Beaugrand or redesign a very important arterial to the West-Island to have a great and safe place for active transportation than we hear nothing.
We only ever hear about the bad things west-islanders do in the media. Rarely the good things.
But oh well that’s life I guess. I’m use to it anyway, I’m a francophone from an exclusively French speaking family and I’m used to politicians and columnists bad mouthing us with fake stories of people not being able to be served in French.
It’s better then nothing, but it’s bad. The big problem is the time it takes to go downtown since you do 20-30 minutes of bus then 40-50 minutes of metro.
But I must say, the 968 is basically the express express 468 lol. Tons of students and people who work at Cote-Vertu take it. It’s always full in the morning/afternoon. Even midday its quite busy. I think it just shows people in Roxboro yearn for a rapid connection to Cote-Vertu (the 468 isn’t fast, just faster then the sluggish 68 )
I really hope so. It probably would be something similar to the 964 shuttle that ran between May and December 2020 via Grenet St. during the pandemic when ridership was low. It would make no sense for transit users from the West Island to end up with an extra transfer just to get to Côte-Vertu Métro station unless there is a agreement where the STM can still have bus routes serve the west branch of the orange line via the St-Laurent Industrial Park while stopping at a REM station - just more direct. Perhaps routes like the 468 merging with the 968 via Pitfield (Autoroute 13) as a direct semi-express to CV could be one solution. This will depend on the future of the 470 line and whether it will still operate as is. Being that the line could still serve the Fairview Pointe-Claire REM station (westbound), it could have the potential to also serve the des Sources REM station on the way (eastbound).
Another option for the STM could be to improve bus service frequency locally in VSL like the 117 at Du Ruisseau where the line could be tweaked to serve Côte-Vertu station and have direct access to CÉGEP St-Laurent, Vanier College and Sacré-Coeur Hospital.
i would really love to see the 68 killed and the 468 take over as the main line. The amount of stops on the 68 is ridiculous, and around rush hours when it stops at many if not most of the stops, you’re almost better off walking at times xD
Just extend the 468 a bit west to reach cap saint jacques and we’re good haha
I dont remember how many 68s go the full way (i think it’s like one every 2 hours?) but sure those one-every-whatever 468s can run down anse to reach there
