Station Des Sources

Hi, did you hear back about such plan for a path under the REM? I started working in the West Island and am trying mixed commute by REM and bike. The cycling network around here is patchy at best and the overpasses over the 40 are a nightmare. I work south of the 40, in front of Fairview station, so I have to either make my prayers before taking the St. Jean overpass, or cycle a bit longer from Des Sources – which at least is on the right side of the highway.

A path on the gravel service road north of Hymus underneath the REM would be perfect and would connect with the cycling path on Hymus starting at Delmar. I can’t believe this has not yet been done, it’s so obvious but I suppose the CDPQ wants to keep the land for maintenance. Maybe it could be split half/half? It certainly seems wide enough. It can actually be ridden as-is today if you’re into offroad biking, lol.

I am now convinced that if one day our society collapses it will not be because of climate change or migration but because of excessive complexity crushing us under our own weight. Building an overpass in under 10 years has become an impossible task. I can’t even get my borough to remove beg buttons in front of REM stations.

So far

  • For Fairview Station: Next year, there is work on the St-Jean overpass, which will include the addition of a bidirectional path on the overpass (I don’t know how far north or south it will go). There will also be a path between from the overpass to the Fairview Station, but the timeline for that hasn’t been announced

  • For Des Sources Station: This year an agreement was made between the CDPQ and the City of Montreal for the latter to be able to create a path under in the REM right-of-way in many places. (See Véloroute REM - #11 par Chuck_A). The feasability study is planned for next year, so it may be a couple of years before its done

If I get any more info, I will update you

Part of the DDO mobility plan from 2024 includes a redevelopment of St-Jean and Sources. Do you know if we will hear more about this plan next year? I suppose the path over the overpass would be done in conjunction.

Neither overpass touches DDO.

The Pointe-Claire budget has St-Jean for 2027, and Sources for 2029
