Station Des Sources

/S that’s the joke

It’s patched up to last another 10-15 years but the structure is at end-of-life and will need replacing by 2040.

There is no plan. No third lane, nor proper sidewalks, nor safe bike paths south of St-Louis/Reverchon.

A bike path the length of sources would be awesome, but the bus lane risks being completely pointless if the bus remains at half hourly all day service (most likely outcome given the ridership lol)

Really? I heard they extended its life much beyond that, I’ve followed a lot of the progress. They reinforced all the pillars, redid the concrete surface and walls and added better drainage, the whole thing almost looks brand new. Just standing next to it when a big truck passes overhead, you can hear how much more solid the entire thing is. It’s probably good until the 2050s and then they can have the whole debate again!

Speaking of, I wanted to know if there was a plan to put a bike path under the REM to be able to bike safely to this station, since the current path along Hymus ends at Delmar, and there isn’t even a shoulder the rest of the way.

The two councillors I asked had advocated previously for it but had not heard anything back.
I contacted the construction REM email and they said

Our teams are currently studying different bicycle path layouts near the REM. We will communicate in due time about the project to come

So it looks like there won’t be any safe path in Pointe-Claire south of the 40 to either Fairview or Des Sources by the time it opens.

They’ve only had 8½ years so far

they have a plan for des source on their 2025-2026-2027 plan

That is after the REM opens, and only for people coming north of the 40.

Slightly off topic, again, but I want to rant about Sources/Hymus.

At the north-east side of the intersection, there is a pedestrian island with curb cuts, but inexplicably, it does not have crossing on the slip lane. (It’s also high-curb on both sides, making it inaccessible).

The north-west corner doesn’t even have a sidewalk.
They also seem to give just barely enough time to cross east-west.

That is why we call it a pedestrian death road and it’s known by the city

Unrelated but close enough to be considered

16.7

Authorize the submission of a request for and
on behalf of the City of Pointe-Claire within the
framework of Active Transportation Fund (ATF)
of the government of Canada for the
construction of a multi-purpose bike path on
Des Sources Boulevard between Saint-Louis
and Belmont avenues.

Nice. That segment is missing even a pedestrian connection going the full way, so it is sorely needed. (but I am sad they couldn’t have it continue past St. Louis to meet with the existing one)

The person who came with the implementation plan diagram doesn’t even know how you’re supposed to use Sources/Hymus, so it has you going behind the islands, an extremely unsafe manoeuvre that will get you run over by a someone speeding throught the slip lane who couldn’t see you behind a stopped car.

Aforementioned scenario

That’s the proposed bike path, the pedestrian connections are the ones in green

Except again it’s dropping you on hymus where 0 sidewalk is available, I’ll talke a photo Monday to explain

Noticed how is dotted orange… That means it’s pc’s responsibility to figure something out and from council that’s a 2027 plan so we will not have any safe connexion until then

Just looked at Google Earth and I see what you mean… Hopefully they install sidewalks soonish

Yeah I saw that, I just mean the safer method would be to use the islands, and add a crossing, like what is done at the other intersections on sources.

They are redoing the intersection this year, so I hope they at least have something better ready this year
