REM - Discussion générale (partie 2)

Can you go all the way downtown? Do you have to transfer and pay after Sources?

You can go all the way through like normal operations.

Cool - so you get a super pass of some sort when boarding one of the 4 West Island REM stations? I can go all the way to Gare centrale, have something to eat, and then come back with the same pass?

TL;DR: Yes, the pass is unlimited for zones ABCD for 24h.

You need a valid ticket to enter the REM, even during the open house from 09:00 to 18:00 today and Sunday. If you enter at any of the four new stations, you can get a 24h unlimited pass for zones ABCD, which they intend you to use to enter. However, even there, you can also use a regular Zone A fare, and save the day pass they give you for another adventure. This can be advantageous (cheaper) if you plan on going outside Zone A on another day. If you enter elsewhere, you don’t get a pass, but I think you can still ask for a pass once you get there.

Is that Oh the Urbanity on the right?

There really aren’t too many modern suburban or regional rail systems with an 8.5 km interstation distance so close to the middle of the city. The choice of using a deprecated industrial spur and an autoroute for its alignment – in order to substantially lower initial costs – really has its drawbacks.

Don’t forget that the whole branch was for political approval, and that approval allowed the other branches to exist.

Sometimes you do have to sacrifice the virgin to the volcano. Ask the city’s east end the drawback of not doing so…

Free REM rides give Montrealers first look at West Island extension

“Going downtown will be way easier now,” said Marc Provost, one of the Montrealers who got a first taste of the REM’s new West Island branch on Saturday, at the Fairview–Pointe-Claire station. Johanie Bouffard reports.

Commuters are out in force this weekend to try Montreal’s new western branch of the REM — the city’s automated light-rail network — ahead of its official opening on Monday.

I noticed that on the network extensions, they no longer have the track diagrams on sign posts… like this one.

They only have the virtual signals (SIG ones) like the one on the top.

NouvLR is seemingly clearing out all their surplus equipment from construction - their mandate is coming to an end.
If you’re interesting in buying some equipment used during REM construction, here you go:

They also stopped putting signs next to switch motors, to the dismay of people like me who try to tag switch numbers on OpenStreetMap. While I mostly figured out the naming convention, I also don’t want to tag on OSM without visual confirmation.

(If anyone has the info, it’s as easy as opening OpenStreetMap and adding a ref (like 01_GCT) to a switch, or adding a railway signal. Thank you in advance!)
