They Finally Built Good Transit!?

The Eglinton Crosstown LRT recently opened in Toronto … it stretches across the middle of the city, it intersects with several other rapid transit lines, the trains are comfortable, and the service is frequent. What’s not to like?

10 ans après le premier partenariat du genre au Canada, Innisfil abandonnera progressivement Uber pour développer un réseau de transport conventionnel.

Innisfil scrapping hubs-based fare system for Uber Transit, rolling out distance base costs for Uber trips

‘For longer trips that exceed the maximum subsidy, the total cost will increase based on distance travelled across the community,’ planning manager says of changes

Since it was established in 2017, the system allowed residents and visitors to pay a subsidized rate when booking an Uber trip.

[…]

Innisfil had grappled with the details of implementing a transit system for years, but the town’s partnership with Uber was seen at the time as a revolutionary step for geographically large municipalities, or those struggling with the rising costs of traditional fixed routes.

When asked whether the new system would increase costs for users, town staff said shorter trips won’t be affected. However, longer rides may become more expensive.

“The cost to riders will vary depending on the distance travelled,” planning manager Brandon Correia said. “Shorter trips are expected to be close to the base fare of $3.25 (and) the town provides a subsidy of up to $10 per trip. For longer trips that exceed the maximum subsidy, the total cost will increase based on distance travelled across the community.”

This switch was decided upon with the adoption of the town’s new transit master plan back in April. And it’s just Stage 1A of the plan.
