Station Panama - Discussion

The station plan has been updated to include the multipurpose path, as well as adding a new (temporary?) parking lot:

:expressionless:

I hope it’s temporary, because as you shared before there are plans to redevelop it

Unrelated, I believe Apple Maps uses the REM Implementation plans as their reference. The entrances to the bus terminal on their map matches exactly to the one the REM has on their website, with the north exit missing:

I finally got to check out the bus terminal and the surrounding area around the station.

Inside the terminal, I noticed a nice detail, the benches and trash bins match the orange/yellow tiles:

Around the station is mostly abandoned parking lots and construction, but one of the finished paths to the bus terminal is really pretty and inviting:

Also I found marking on the ground for bike parking and the coverings over the bike racks. There will be two coverings under these darker concrete areas, and LOTS of bike parking, benches, and a trash bin:

On the other side of the terminal they’re developing Rue Philippines and I believe making a median:

Construction is underway on the parking lot closer to the highway for the REM so they can eventually redevelop what is the current parking lot:

Finally, on the other side of the highway, the connection to Secteur T is underway. If it’s open again next time I visit I’ll try to walk down the path (I don’t know why I didn’t today, on Labour day, when there was nobody there):

That’s all for now! I’ll be checking back every couple weeks now and will share updates!

I noticed information signs installed on the platforms when I went by the station, the signage looks almost identical to some renders. I made this to show what I saw, and also combining what’s seen from the video @ComradeMark shared (I can actually see the signs in this video!):

Also, I walked down the path and got to see under the highway…

Our first peek at the station furniture is now visible at the Panama terminal station.
They’re installing bike parking, trash cans, and seating all over the main station entrace.

I’ll stop by Nuns’ Island station later today to see how the overpass plaza is progressing!

Most, if not all the concrete curbs for the parking lot have been filled in, more bike racks installed, and the path into Sector T now has a pit in it and is blocked off.

I really hope they start before the first snow dump

I’m curious to know how they’ll function during heavy snow

The outline of the street has been made, rue Philippines looks very very wide, hopefully they have plants in the median. The picture isn’t great sorry:

The old AMT bus terminal sign is still here, I’m guessing they’ll remove it when the new one is installed that’ll also have the REM logo:

Also these smaller signs were just laying around that aren’t used anymore (AMT branded) so……

Curious if anyone knows what will happen to the Loblaws that’s currently serving as Covid-19 vaccination center? Does the city own the property now and it’s up to them to decide what to do with it?

You can follow this thread about the redevelopment of this property, owned by Devimco:

Not much visible changes:

I want to go in detail about this bench though, it’s really nice. The elbow rests are glossy black, which contrasts with the matte dark grey legs. The legs also have a highlight of yellow/gold that wrap around the edge, the same colour of the tiles. I also appreciate the curved wood, which wraps around the back and front of the bench. Ok that’s all :stuck_out_tongue:
