Station Côte-de-Liesse

How would that work, it would just be inserted into the regular flow and increase the frequency between CdL and Brossard temporarily? And it wouldn’t work for the return trip, because then everybody would have to leave that REM train and catch the next one if they wanted to continue on their way west…

It would not be needed for the return trip. Only when hundreds of people arrive at CDL at the same time.

If only exo15 attracted enough riders!

That answers the second part of my question…

And after that first extra empty train fills up, what then? Where does the next empty train come from? Do they just kick everybody off who were going north/west?

Or are we suggesting that Mascouche only has like five trains during rush hours, and maybe only one that will have enough riders to overflow an already-packed REM train?

Maybe short running, in that hypothetical scenario, or an empty train slotted in between other trains from Brossard or Saint-Eustache.

I imagine the train could do CDL-GC and it will stop at every stations. A message will say “ this train will terminate at GC”. Then go back to CDL empty and without stopping at any station.

In the morning peak, an out of service train (or in service, who knows) will come from Brossard or Gare Centrale and park itself on the right hand side of the left platform. Meanwhile, for all the morning peak, southbound trains will use the leftmost track and platform. Northbound trains are unchanged. Then, once the mascouche train arrives, the parked train returns south as an A1 train like normal. If mascouche say doubles or triples in ridership with the added convenience of the REM connection, or if the government actually invests in the mascouche line and gives it better station placement and frequencies, then they might have to put this system in place.

It’s a pretty good solution for the challenge of the Mascouche line. Obviously you can’t have maybe 500 riders get off a mascouche train, walk to the montreal bound platform, and attempt to board a train that may or may not be at crush capacity from demand in the north west.

What’s the max speed through turnouts for the west platform? If they are a limiting factor in trains’ approach or departure speed, couldn’t the empty trains approach from the north (presumably from Saint-Eustache garage) and occupy the westernmost platform instead, leaving the centre platform open for a more direct routesetting for through trains?

That is probably equally possible too. Just depends on whether the empty trains sit at St Eustache or Brossard.

If the trains come from the south, they can be in service the whole time and only 1 off peak direction train will be missing for one of the branches. If it comes from the north, the train would have to be out of service.
