Cool!
On verra demain matin.

I’m assuming the STM wanted more regulation space. Due to how much interlining is done, they require space to wait and then leave to another route, without blocking other quais.
Some intersections on this street still lack barriers and it’s very problematic. Tonight I was side-swiped by a car who swerved into the bike lane to go around someone waiting to turn left. They didn’t even react when I shouted. I had flashing lights on, reflectors, everything you’re supposed to have to “be seen”. But none of that helps when people don’t look.
The only thing that stops drivers from infringing into our space is physical barriers, and I wish we took that way more seriously. I’m getting tired of almost dying on my way to and from work on supposedly “protected” bike lanes.
Additionally, I see that the City has painted virtual saillies de trottoir on cross streets. These achieve literally nothing. Many mornings when I approach métro station Préfontaine, I see three cars side by side at Rue Dézéry, often all jockeying for position to be able to see past the other cars, infringing into the crosswalk and bike lane. We need to at least put some bollards or a big concrete planter. And in general, I hope that whatever solution is installed will make the saillies large enough that actually only one car can pass through at a time, because in many places around town, the street is still wide enough for two cars, and people still pull this kind of crap.
Sorry, I’m just in shock from the near-death experience and kind of mad. No brain power left to temper my words, or translate.
Im glad that you voice your opinion on the very problematic current design/finishing on the refurbished Hochelaga street, and am sorry for your stressful experience. A few days ago, 3 cyclists almost got hit by a bus closing in the bus stop at Davidson/Hochelaga eastbound. The bike path, suddenly and for no obvious reason, has no ground marking at this bus stop, making it hazardous for both cyclists and bus driver. The current design is indeed very problematic on many stretches of the remodeling. It curiously looks like its not finished at all. Im actually surprised it currently stays “as is”.
Many intersections are simply two wide for a car to cross safely. To time your turn between a bike lane, a crosswalk, and potentially a lane of traffic, drivers often race to make narrow windows. Just a few hours ago a car tried to gun it to turn left from a cross street and could have killed my partner and myself if he had not immediately braked after seeing us. Sorry to hear about your experience. It’s scary stuff.
I am myself pretty disappointed with the Nicolet/Hochelaga intersection. I was hoping for a proper redoing of the corner with streetlights - to make it easier for pedestrians to cross both East/West and especially North/South. I can tell that this section is where traffic slows down and gets a bit busy a little which I’m sure the planners knew, what with all the buses at Joliette. But I can tell it makes people coming down from Sherbrooke stressed at turning either West or East and there is so much interlocking there. It’s annoying.
