Développement du secteur Fairview

I’m at the municipal meet-and-greet/debate

A bit of bad news. Apparently, according to the mayor, the estimate for the multi-use overpass came in around 35m$. So it’s looking like it’s less likely that it will get built

So the current plan for bike access to the station for that area would be to wait for the MTQ to redo the St-Jean overpass, and on one end connect that to Hymus and on the other have a path parallel to the service road.

Belvedere

He’s not so much pro-development, more like more open to compromise to get concessions.

Anyways, I am still pleasantly surprised

I wanted to note that while there have been some changes among the councilors, the majority still remain supportive of Belvedere. I’m optimistic that construction on the towers in the parking lot will begin early next year!

Wow nicely done Pointe-Claire.

The voters who bothered to show up aren’t blind; four years of council quagmire has left the development of the city’s “downtown” at a standstill.

I hope Belvedere builds up the courage to do anything but leave the Fairview Forest in limbo ad aeternam. Every time I pass by on the 470 and see those private property signs I feel like they are mocking me. A municipal/ecological parc, TOD, anything!

That’s the thing, the cluster-f in the meetings has kinda shown that the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze.

I think the block everything at any cost even when it’s not actually in my back yard crowd is rather small. I don’t think the average Pointe-Claire resident particularly cares about what happens with an all but 2 days a year empty parking lot.

The woods are another story, but I could very easily see a negotiation between the city that would upzone the lot along Brunswick in exchange for making some or all of the woods into a park with paths. Perhaps even being mostly parking neutral by building a structure along the highway.

Also I hope this means that the multi-use overpass is back on the table, despite the higher than expected construction estimate.

It is now possible to walk between the jersey barriers from Fairview Avenue to entrance 6 of Fairview Pointe-Claire Shopping Centre via the parking lot. However, the future intersection to cross the said avenue to the REM station has yet to be completed. As you can see, it appears to be that a fire hydrant may be one obstacle to get it done.
