Which became Haiti. The city of Santo Domingo – served by this flight and the subject of this thread – has never been called by the name of the French colony. I’ll repeat, this is the first time I’ve seen Saint-Domingue used for the city of Santo Domingo.
Santo Domingo/Saint-Domingue étant une ville capitale, il est d’usage de traduire son nom dans la langue utilisée. Ce n’est pas le cas pour les villes qui ne sont pas des capitales, ce qui explique que Québec (ville) devienne “Quebec City” en anglais, mais que Baie-Comeau ne devienne pas “Comeau Bay”, et que London, England devienne Londres, mais que London, Ontario reste London.
That’s not exactly a rule. English countries don’t call it Saint Dominic.
Again, please show me where I might have previously seen Saint-Domingue used for the capital city of DR? The airlines, the travel companies selling all-inclusive packages, even the airport itself uses “Santo Domingo” when publishing or displaying the name.

When I went to DR 30 years ago, it was already called Saint-Domingue in Mirabel airport… Even Google Maps show it as Saint-Domingue.
